The human body is made up of 2/3 water, for this reason it is so important in how our bodies function.
Water aids in digestion and absorption of food, it regulates body temperature, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, helps keep your muscles and skin toned, assists in weight loss, and eliminates toxins from the body. Water also cushions joints and protects tissues and organs.
So if you don’t drink enough water, you just got a bunch of reasons why you should increase your consumption.
The other day I was sitting at the BB3 Café (the kitchen area of the AWESOME gym I work at), and I was talking to 2 of my colleagues, Sylvia Ferrero and Loryn Huff (Incredible trainers by the way).
We were discussing water.
Sylvia who turns 40 tomorrow and doesn’t look a day over 28 was saying she’s trying to drink more water cuz she feels like she isn’t drinking enough. She said now that she’s 40 she is noticing a need to drink more, and she even said she thinks it’s affecting her sleep. She said she was trying to drink 3 liters a day and Loryn said she drinks about the same.
I know, it sounds like a lot, but you can do it too.
I know, add another thing to your busy day right??? Drink more water!
If you have a hard time getting enough water in, make mini goals throughout the day.
For example, here is what I do to help myself get all my water in, and what I tell my clients to do.
Drinking Water Schedule:
My goal by the time I leave work (11am) is to drink 3 of my water bottles, which adds up to 1.5 liters
My goal by snack time (3pmish) is to drink another 2 bottles, now I am up to 2.5 liters.
My goal by dinner time (8pm) is to drink another 2 bottles, which takes me to ~3.5 liters.
My dinner time goal is one more bottle, so I drink approximately 4.5 liters a day.
To figure out approximately how much water you should intake, take your body weight in pounds and divide it by 2, that is how many ounces of water you should consume. Now throw in a few extra ounces if you exercise and now you have a goal.
If you set mini goals throughout the day, you are more likely to consume as much water as you need. When it comes close to the set time of your desired intake and you are not there, you will start chugging………… as I do! It has really helped me and my clients drink enough water and my hope is that it helps you.
