We all have EMOTIONAL days right?
Well, unfortunately the last two days have been really hard emotional days for me.
Last night my husband left for his weekly basketball game, and I was sitting at home with Nicholas feeding him dinner and feeling like crap. It was about 7:15pm, almost Nicholas’ bed time, a really busy time for me as I’m finishing setting up dinner for Danny, feeding Nicholas, setting up his bottle, bathing him, cleaning up, etc. But I decided to put Nicholas in the stroller and go for a jog. I debated for a moment. It’s going to get dark out, I need to bathe Nicholas, I still have to clean up so much, etc. But I did it!
As I began to run I was thinking of my behavior. I was sad, upset, depressed, angry, stressed, and all I wanted to do is get some exercise. For a moment I felt so lucky, happy and blessed. I thought of all the times I hear people say…… “I was upset so I didn’t get my workout it”, “I was stressed so I over ate”, “I was angry so I ate badly”, “I am depressed, so I am not going to workout”.
I have to say that I was proud of myself in that moment for choosing to do something healthy to make myself feel better. And BETTER is what I felt when I was done. It was a beautiful evening, and I got to pray while I ran. Nicholas was great, thank God! He just sat there and enjoyed the ride, and gave mommy a chance to breathe, pray, and get a sweat on! I got home a new woman!
My hope is that next time you are having a bad day or a bad week, that you choose to do something healthy. Eat even cleaner than you normally do, go for a walk, run, ride, etc. Hit the weights, hit the bags, roller blade……..
Whatever it is you enjoy for exercise, but make sure it is something that is going to make you feel good after. It amazes me when people react to having a bad day by eating poorly or giving up exercise. This will only make you feel worse. So even though getting started when you are having a bad day is hard, make the effort, I promise you will feel better after.
And mommies, when you are feeling overwhelmed, give yourselves a MOMENT to BREATHE. Give yourselves some QT (quality time). You deserve it, and it will make you be a better wife, mom, friend, co-worker, CEO, etc.
Make it a GREAT DAY!
