I am sitting at the salon getting my hair fixed (as if I have any more time to waste). And I can’t help but over hearing this lady on the phone, telling her friend on the phone that she has lost weight and she is doing this great diet and taking all these “tablets” and doing Cross Fit. As I start paying closer attention to her conversation, I start thinking to myself, that this is what most people do in order to lose weight.
She continues to tell her friend…… “I just take these tablets 3 times a day and I eat a light breakfast and lunch”. HOLY MOLY! Well, I would lose weight also if I only ate twice a day! This is why most people fail at achieving and maintaining their fitness and weight loss goals.
People think that they can basically “starve themselves”, and take some pills, and lose weight and keep it off! WRONG! What usually happens is these people end up binging because it is physically impossible to live on starvation mode like this all the time. These people tend to gain all the weight back and some!
I know that it is hard to understand that eating “very little” makes you gain weight, and that in order to speed metabolism and burn calories all the time, you should eat more and eat often.
I had a client once who told me “I’ve always heard you have to eat 5-6 meals a day, but in my head, I feel like that is just going to blow me up”. She said this to me after I told her the changes I wanted her to make in her nutrition. So I asked her, “has anyone ever explained to you why you should eat often and why you should eat more, and why you should eat these types of foods?” She said NO!
I think this is the reason people don’t do what they are supposed to sometimes. Because they don’t “get it”, and if they don’t “get it” and don’t “buy into it or believe it”, the chances are they are not going to follow it. So I am going to take the liberty to explain to you why you should eat often and why eating 5-6 meals a day makes you burn more calories. Because when I explained this to my client, she finally understood it, believed it and was able to actually live it. The result = she got in THE BEST SHAPE OF HER LIFE!
First let me define the word METABOLISM.
Metabolism is the rate at which your body digests or breaks down food.
Everything you do in life takes energy. Breathing, walking, moving, chewing, swallowing, even digestion takes energy.
How do you get your energy? You get it from CALORIES. So every time you are breathing, walking, moving, etc, you are using up energy or BURNING CALORIES. If this is so, and digestion takes energy, then the process of digestion BURNS CALORIES.
Isn’t that GREAT NEWS! YOU EAT = YOU BURN CALORIES.
So in order to SPEED METABOLISM so that you can burn calories all day long, you must eat often so that your body is always burning calories through the process of digestion.
Are you feeling a little better about eating often? Because this was the point where my client had a breakthrough. I clearly remember her saying “now I understand, I can’t believe I’ve been missing out all these years on speeding metabolism and burning more calories by just eating more often”. THE AHA MOMENT…….. I love it!
Can you understand now, why eating 2 “LIGHT MEALS”, would not help you lose weight and keep it off?
Another reason why most people fail by eating 2 meals a day is because they end up having LOW BLOOD SUGAR. When too much time goes by without eating a meal, you end up with low blood sugar. When you have low blood sugar, your body SCREAMS……… “GIVE ME SUGAR IF YOU WANT ME TO SURVIVE”.
It’s not that you “crave sugar”. In that moment (of low blood sugar), your body NEEDS IT! And when this happens, is when you end up falling off the wagon and eating the CRAP! It is so much harder to have WILL POWER, when you have low blood sugar. Can I get an AMEN!
So, how do you stabilize blood sugar so that you have energy all day and not “CRAVE SUGAR”? Eat often! Eat a THERMIC MEAL every 2-3 hours!

I hope that you get it now! I hope that now you buy into the FACT that eating more and eating often will speed metabolism and keep your blood sugar stable so that you have a TON OF ENERGY and can BURN CALORIES all day long.
