Tricks To Help You Eat Clean During The Weekends

The other day, my sister-in-law (who is in great shape), said, tomorrow is Monday, back to Michelle's Mommy Meal Plan (my new program for moms).  You know what that means...... It means she didn't eat well all weekend.

I hear this kind of stuff all the time.  Especially all my clients on Monday's when I ask them how they ate throughout the weekend, most of the time, its.....NOT GOOD!

Why?

Is it because mentally you just say "screw it", and you just go crazy eating on the weekends?

Is it because you have felt deprived all week because you tried to eat "So Clean"?

Is it because you were not prepared?

I think it is a combination of all of them!

Most people eat super bland and boring all week, in hopes of staying on their "DIET", so they end up feeling like they need to binge on the weekend.

Is this you?

Some people see the weekend as a time to let go and be free and do and eat whatever they want.

Is this you?

Some people prepare and cook Monday through Friday so they are not prepared with healthy options during the weekend.

Is this you?

If you are one of the first two, I suggest you read Bryan Francis Blog on Cheat Meals.  But I will tell you this.  There is something very psychological with eating.  If you enjoy the food that you eat, you don't feel as if you are on a "diet", and you don't feel the need to "over-indulge" in BAD FOOD.  So as I always say, take the time to plan and prepare yummy healthy meals, so that you can enjoy the process of EATING CLEAN.

If you are the last one, and you don't EAT CLEAN on the weekends because you are not prepared, here is what you are going to do.  Actually if you are any of the above, if you do this, it will help you stay on track all weekend.

On Thursday or Friday, make a menu for the weekend.  Make a few easy meals or snacks that you can leave in the fridge so that you can be prepared.

Most people fail on the weekends because they have no healthy options available.  When you don't have healthy options available, it is a lot easier to "mess it up".  On the other hand, if you have healthy options readily available, even in a moment of temptation, if you have the healthy options available, it is easier to fight it.

Yesterday, we watched the HEAT GAME at a friends house.  I knew that there would probably not be many healthy options.  So since my refrigerator was stocked with healthy options and left over's from the week, I was able to quickly pack some food to take with me.

Ok, so maybe I was going to have to deal with friends saying "are you crazy", "you cant eat a hamburger one day", "you are ridiculous", "I can't believe you".  But I was happy!  Eating hamburgers and hot dogs was not even worth it for me.

So I was truly happy with my Tupperware of Jasmine Rice with Edamame and Mahi-mahi with a delicious salsa.  It took me a minute to pack, and I had a great eating day.

If you don't have time to cook a meal, check out Billy Beck's new favorite shake, click here to get the recipe.

It actually feels really good to start the week off knowing you had a CLEAN EATING WEEKEND.

Which one of the above people are you?  And what do you do to fight the temptations on the weekends?

If you are not one of the above, and you EAT CLEAN during the weekends, what is your plan?

Great post, Michelle! Thanks identifying those common thoughts that lead us into unhealthy eating choices over the weekend. Deprivation really sets us up for bad choices over the weekend! Your recipe ideas help us all avoid both of those situations-deprivation and overindulgence. Thank you!!

Michelle, on weekends if I want a 'cheat' meal, I put a boca burger on the grill pan and have it with whole grain bread, hummus, veggie cheese slices, tomato, lettuce/arugula and a little ketchup! Good or bad????

Love this post! Too many people would be afraid to bring their healthy choice with them!

The worst part is the pearl onions they used for eyes. No, I take it back. The worst part is that when meat cooks, it skhnirs, so when this monstrosity is done it's going to look even more monstrous. Not to mention the uneven baking--by the time the torso is done, the legs and feet will be burned. No, I take it back yet again. The very worst part comes when it's time to serve that thing. The tastiest part would be the bit wrapped in bacon. I'm just imagining someone saying "Can I have a slice of the diaper, please?" GAAAHH! I can't believe I'm thinking about this!!

Simple you have to eat less. I have been losing weight simply by eating about one-half of what I normally eat. For example, if I have a hamburger, I eat about 3/4 of it. Maybe eat 1/2 of the fries. I have half a sandwich for lunch, whereas I used to have a whole sandwich. If we eat dinner out, as soon as I get my food, I cut the meat in half and sort of separate the fries or whatever into 2 stacks. So far it is working great for me. I can eat anything I want, just have a half portion. Hope this helps.
