New Mommies Trying to Get in SHAPE

Yesterday Nicholas and I had a play date with some friends!

This is what mommies do.  If not, you go crazy!

Anyways, we took a long walk to the Town Center where we had lunch.  As we started our walk, we started talking about our Jogging strollers…..Jill doesn’t have one, but Lisa does (but she doesn’t run with it lol

I asked them if they wanted to jog with Nicholas and I a few times a week.  They were all about it which was great.  Then they started with the “I will be going slow”, “I can’t run 3 miles”, “I will jog half of what you do”…….., then they kept talking about my butt….. I know soooo weird, but this is what us girls do, RIGHT?  “I want a butt like that”, “I can’t stop looking at your butt”. It was so funny…… I just kept saying, jogging will help you get there!  They are totally inspired to jog with me…..hey whatever it takes, I am just glad they decided to start MOVING, and Nicholas and I will definitely appreciate the company!

I am so pumped that Lisa and Jill will be joining us to jog, it’s a shame though that they are starting to exercise 9 MONTHS POST-BABY!  Mommies, I know it’s hard, I know you are tired, I know you just don’t feel up to it”, but the rewards will far exceed the sacrifices you will be making.

As soon as I got clearance from my Doctor to start exercising, I did!  The beginning was really hard for me, even though I love exercise and this is what I do for a living.  I mean, I didn’t exercise for 9 weeks after the baby, I was exhausted, I wasn’t getting much sleep, I didn’t have any energy, I didn’t have much time, I started to work, and the list goes on.  But I knew that once I started I would progressively start feeling better…..and I did!

The first thing I did was jog with the baby. This I could make time for as it wasn’t taking time away from my precious little baby.  I felt like such a loser the first few times, I was so out of breathe and in pain.  But I kept going.  I set little goals for myself.  I started running through my neighborhood; I never wanted to go far as I didn’t know when my precious little angel was going to start crying.  So I would run to a cul-de-sac, and then walk around it, run to the next cul-de-sac, and walk around it, until little by little I was able to run the whole way through.  Sometimes singing “The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round”……anything to quiet my little angel so that mommy could make it through a short jog.

It’s ok mommy, if you can’t run long distances, or if you can’t get a full hour of weight training, or if you can’t bike ride to the corner without feeling like you are going to die.  Just move, just start, set mini goals for yourself, and keep going.  And little by little, you will gain more endurance, you will get more energy, you will get stronger, you will start losing weight, and you will feel great. BUT YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE!  So don’t be discouraged by your starting point.  Just do it!
