So I just saw a video online of Kim Kardashian's trainer giving some tips for her wedding workout. Now the last thing I want to do is talk smack about him as he obviously does something right since he trains so many celebs. So KUDOS to him.
What bothered me a bit was that he was saying that people should do cardio and strength training at the same time. Here is why I don't think this is effective, and not even for Kim Kardashian's wedding workout.
- Most people can't control most strength movements unless they are advanced lifters or avid strength exercisers.
- People can injure themselves doing both cardio and weight lifting movements.
- You don't get the BEST or even DECENT results from steady state cardio, and while lifting weights I can't imagine doing cardio intense enough to actually burn some fat at an accelerated rate.
- Interval cardio is best for MASSIVE FAT BURN. Even 15-20 minutes would be way more effective than sitting on a recumbent bike doing shoulder presses.
- In order to actually get some muscle tone and definition you have to challenge the body with weight that is enough to create a challenge while maintaining control. This is not possible to do while peddaling on a bike or running.
I understand that Kim Kardashian's Wedding Workout has to be fast and effective since she is so short on time. I love that her trainer has her boxing and lifting and doing battle ropes for variety etc. But here is what I think would take her Wedding Workout or anyone's wedding workout to another level of fat loss and muscle definition.
She works out 5 times a week (or so it says). So here would be my plan for the optimal wedding workout.
- 3 Days of HARDCORE weight lifting. Where you train the entire body including the core with enough intensity and volume. That just means with enough weight to be challenging and the proper amount of sets and repetitions.
- 2-3 Days of INTERVAL CARDIO. Even if its 15 minutes. 15 minutes of hard interval cardio would burn a ton more calories than sitting on a recumbent bike while doing bicep curls.
- If only 3 days are available, I would strength train for 45 minutes 3 times per week and end with 15 minutes of HARDCORE Interval Cardio!.
Now this is what you call a great Wedding Workout! Fat Loss & Muscle Definition at its best.
