Loryn (an awesome trainer at BB3 Personal Training & Performance) and I workout together sometimes. It’s so much more fun to workout with a partner, so when we have a chance to train together, we do!
The other day we were training shoulders so I asked Loryn to choose 3 exercises. She started thinking and before she said a word I said “LATERAL RAISES”. She giggled…………….., as this is her least favorite exercise, but she said let’s do it anyway.

Then we proceeded to talk about doing all the exercises we hate to do, because those are probably the exercise we don’t do enough and the ones we SHOULD do! So now when we train, we pick all the exercises we hate to do.
I know, it sounds like it sucks and like we are torturing ourselves, but were not. Were actually challenging ourselves and training beyond our comfort zone. And that is what you have to do my friend!
You might hate to get up an extra hour early before work to get to the gym, you might hate to exercise, you might hate to eat healthy food. All of these things might be well past your comfort zone, but all these things will make you a better person. They will make you a better mother, wife, etc. You will have more energy, you will look better, you will feel better about yourself, and you will be setting a good example for your family.
Is it a sacrifice??
Your damn right it is!
But it sure is worth it!
So when it comes to your health and fitness, even if you hate it……………. DO IT!

I promise it will pay off.
And you might even find yourself one day, LOVING the things you one day HATED!
As for my friend and colleague Loryn, I am not so sure she LOVES doing LATERAL RAISES, but one day when she gets really good and strong at them she might just love them.
And as for me, I still dislike doing Bulgarian Split Squats, but I keep doing them, and now I don’t HATE them, I just DISLIKE them. Soon I will LOVE them.
So think of me next time you are at the gym or cooking or eating out, and opt for the thing you want to stay away from. If it’s staying away from the fish and veggies, then order that. If it’s not going in to the gym, then do that, if it’s doing a certain exercise, choose that one!
Challenge yourself, go beyond your comfort, and TRUST ME, it will PAY OFF.
